Cylinder Types

Cylinders Hot water cylinders are used as storage vessels, and come in various sizes and types, and are constructed from copper and Stainless Steel.

Direct cylinder Water is heated by an internal heat source, usually by way of an immersion heater.

Indirect cylinder Water is heated via an internal coil, which has an external heat source such as a boiler or by solar thermal.

Solar cylinder These cylinders are fitted with 2 coils. The lower coil is for connecting to the solar thermal system and the upper coil being fitted to a boiler.

Unvented cylinder This style of cylinder is designed to be used with sealed hot water systems, and come with either an internal or external expansion vessel, and are typically constructed in Duplex stainless steel.

Vented cylinders These have predominantly been constructed in copper, however stainless steel constructed cylinders have recently entered the market place. Vented hot water systems work in conjunction with a cold water storage header tank.
